Ms. Jaana Susan Lahtinen a finish teacher tourist based in Helsinki Finland traveled to Gulu Northern Uganda two times sometimes in July and October 2018 respectively, hosted by the members of the local churches in Gulu Town. Her visit was to tour and be able learn about the community living in Gulu and other in Northern Uganda. She heard about the impact of the Lord Resistance Army led by Joseph Kony’s war that the community went through for a long time.
She had good ideas of working with the youth and innovatively started working with youth in piloting a self-reliance sustaining community project in textile and design production made out the African wax materials of various make to suit the people living locally and internationally. These products are produce at a reasonable cost and expected to make profit to be able sustain the cost of production and others.
I commended her contribution to the youth in Gulu Northern Uganda in this era of recovery processes that shall make the youth create employments and increased household income, thus, contributing to the Government of Uganda revenue tax base.
Her contributions is among the multi-stakeholders contributing to the recovery processes of Northern Uganda in line with the SDG’s 2030, Uganda’s Vision 2040 and other partner’s development frameworks.
